*          Five officers were dismissed by executive session of the River Forest Village Board on March 10, 1929. Version 1) they entered a bar in Melrose Park (or Franklin Pk.)and were told that they couldn’t enter with loaded guns. They said OK and emptied their sidearms by discharging them. Version 2) A black janitor entered the bar around closing time to clean-up and one of the five asked if he could dance and all the guns went off. Version 3) is that after the bar incident they went back to River Forest, heard that there was a prowler at 625 Franklin (3/3/29) and responded and shot up (an imaginary) burglar. Fired were: Herb Reilly, Ed Samuel, Ed Mahm, Sid Carne and Paul Ware. Hired were: Ed Peterson, Ed Nendick, Charles Broehl, Bern Gerard and Oliver Schultz.(2)(8)
